The Difference between Foliar Uptake and Foliar Applied Fertilizers

A recent article written about the difference between liquid fertilizers and granulars group most liquids into foliar fertilizer with the characteristics of quick green up, short – lived and frequent applications needed. It’s important to note that there is a difference between foliar fertilizers and foliar applied nutrients. Foliar fertilizer is commonly defined as soluble nutrients applied and absorbed in the leaf. Foliar applied nutrients like the Essential Green products clearly do not meet the definition of foliar fertilizer. Our complexing molecule C-Plexx weighing in at 500 molecular weight or Daltons (DA) is 4 to 5 times larger then most amino acids. This large molecule is to large to enter the leaf efficiently. We prove this with basic high iron applications that take 4 to 5 days to green up when traditional iron foliar applications (or foliar fertilizers) green up almost as you spay them.  We all know that foliar iron last days where a true soil uptake foliar applied nutrient can last weeks and months.

Golf Course Superintendents and Turf Managers plan and execute programs and procedures that maintain a superior experience that enhances and protects the environment, property and aesthetics for the enjoyment of its members, guest and customers.  In order to supply day in and day out optimum conditions it’s important to remember some key agronomic principles. There are basically 17 elements identified as vital to plant growth. Three of these carbon, hydrogen and oxygen are non mineral entering the plant via the air and water.  Once nutrients enter the plant they are transported to points of need by the plant. Some elements or minerals are more mobile in the plant then others. Adequate mineral availability is vital to plant health and to prevent deficiencies. Since all plant nutrition has to be in a soluble liquid form to be taken into the plant it makes sense to apply liquid nutrition. The choices are to apply a true foliar with fast results and short lived or a foliar applied nutrition product like Essential Green’s products that are plant available at the root level and get the benefit of long lasting feeding.

Remember all foliar fertilizers aren’t the same and there is a difference between foliar uptake and foliar applied.
